2027 401(k) & IRA Contribution Limits Calculator (Projected)
401(k) / 403(b) / 457
IRA / Roth IRA
Sourced from Milliman's "2027 IRS Limits Forecast – July" (published 2026-08-13, based on July 2026 CPI data) for 401(k)/403(b)/457 figures. IRA figures are genuinely split between forecasters — $7,500 (unchanged) or $8,000 (more likely given recent CPI data) — so both are shown rather than picking one. This is general information, not tax or financial advice.

Frequently asked questions
Are these official IRS numbers?
No — the IRS typically announces official retirement plan limits in October or November for the following year. These are projections from Milliman's actuarial forecast (near-final as of its August 2026 update, based on July 2026 CPI data), not confirmed IRS figures. This page will be updated with confirmed numbers once the IRS publishes its official notice.
Why do other sites show a different 401(k) number, like $25,000?
Earlier 2026 forecasts (as far back as March) projected $25,000. As more months of actual inflation data came in, the projection was revised upward to $25,500 by mid-2026. This page uses the most recent forecast available; older articles you find elsewhere may still show the earlier, lower estimate.
Why does the IRA limit show two numbers instead of one?
Unlike the 401(k) limit, the IRA limit rounds in $500 increments and forecasters are genuinely split — some project it stays at $7,500, others project it crosses the threshold to $8,000. Recent inflation data makes $8,000 the more likely outcome, but we show both rather than pick one and imply false certainty.
What is the age 60-63 'super catch-up'?
A SECURE 2.0 provision that lets workers aged 60-63 make a higher catch-up contribution than the standard age-50+ catch-up. For 2027 it's projected at $11,750, versus $8,500 for the standard 50+ catch-up (ages 50-59 and 64+).
