Unused PTO Value Calculator
Educational estimate only. Whether unused PTO rolls over, is paid out, or is forfeited depends on your employer's policy and your state's laws -- check your own policy.
Enter your pay and how many PTO days you have left, and see exactly what that unused time off is worth in dollars -- plus a live countdown to year-end if your plan doesn't roll over.
How it works
- Choose hourly or annual pay, and enter the amount
- Move the slider to your remaining unused PTO days
- See the dollar value of that time, compared to the national average, and how many days are left in 2026
Frequently asked questions
How is the dollar value calculated?
For annual pay, we divide by 2,080 (40 hours x 52 weeks) to get an hourly rate, then multiply by your unused days x 8 hours. For hourly pay, we multiply your rate directly by unused hours.
How does this compare to other workers?
Clockify's 2026 PTO research found that 62% of US workers don't use all their paid time off, representing about $312 billion in unused PTO value nationally -- an average of roughly $2,953 in unused time off per worker.
Does this mean my PTO payout at a new job or when I quit will match this number?
Not necessarily. Whether unused PTO is paid out, rolls over, or is forfeited ('use it or lose it') depends on your employer's policy and your state's laws -- this tool shows the time's value, not a payout estimate.
Why show a countdown to year-end?
Many PTO plans reset or cap carryover on December 31. The countdown is a simple reminder of how much time is actually left to use it before it's forfeited, if your plan works that way -- check your own policy to be sure.
