Frequently asked questions
Does it have to be 50,000 words?
No. The nonprofit that ran the original NaNoWriMo dissolved in 2025, and the community has continued informally since — 50,000 is just the traditional default here. Set any goal that fits your project.

What happens if I fall behind?
