Frequently asked questions

Does it work both ways?

Yes — type into the centimeters field and feet/inches update, or type into feet/inches and centimeters updates. Neither direction requires a separate button.

How do you convert cm to feet and inches?

Divide the centimeters by 2.54 to get total inches, since one inch is defined as exactly 2.54 cm. Then divide by 12: the whole number is feet and the remainder is inches. For example, 180 cm ÷ 2.54 = 70.87 inches, which is 5 feet 10.9 inches.

How do you convert feet and inches to cm?

Multiply the feet by 12, add the inches, and multiply the total by 2.54. For example, 5 ft 9 in = 69 inches × 2.54 = 175.26 cm.

What are common heights in cm and feet?

150 cm ≈ 4 ft 11.1 in. 160 cm ≈ 5 ft 3.0 in. 165 cm ≈ 5 ft 5.0 in. 170 cm ≈ 5 ft 6.9 in. 175 cm ≈ 5 ft 8.9 in. 180 cm ≈ 5 ft 10.9 in. 185 cm ≈ 6 ft 0.8 in. 190 cm ≈ 6 ft 2.8 in.

Why does 182 cm show as 5 ft 11.65 in instead of 6 feet?

Six feet is exactly 182.88 cm, so anything below that is still 5 ft 11-and-something. Heights are often rounded to the nearest inch on forms and profiles, which is why 182 cm is commonly described as "about 6 feet" even though the exact conversion is a little short.
