Frequently asked questions

Where do these dates come from?

Each date is built from the state's published rule (for example, "30 days before Election Day") as compiled by the nonprofit Vote.org, which mirrors the rules on vote.gov, and cross-checked against 2026 state announcements and reporting by the Center for Election Innovation & Research. Where our sources disagreed, we show "check your state official site" instead of guessing.

Can I still register if I missed the deadline?

Some states allow same-day registration: 22 states and DC let you register in person during early voting or on Election Day, though the rules differ (North Carolina only during early voting, Rhode Island only for presidential elections). The state card shows what applies where you live.

What if my deadline falls on a weekend?

A few states move a weekend deadline to the next business day and some do not. Dates shown with a Saturday or Sunday are listed as published; confirm with your state or local election office.

Is this tool partisan or affiliated with a government?

No. It is non-partisan civic information that says nothing about candidates, parties, or ballot measures, and it is not run by any government agency. The official place to check is your state election office, reachable through vote.gov.
