An ATS-friendly resume template you can save as a PDF without paying

Reviews of the big resume builders repeat one story: you spend an hour polishing a resume, and only at the final step do you find that downloading the PDF needs a paid plan. Roundups of Zety, Resume.io and ResumeGenius describe low-cost trials that convert into subscriptions of around $24 a month, and Resume.io is reported to limit free users to one resume and no PDF download. The design tool Canva is free, but its resume templates lean on multi-column layouts and text boxes that applicant tracking systems can misread.

Free resume builder with no signup

The Resume Template tool has no account, no payment step and no watermark. Type in your details and the resume updates beside the form; when you are happy, use Print / Save as PDF and choose Save as PDF in your browser's dialog. Nothing is uploaded, and reloading the page clears your data, so copy the plain text or save the PDF before you leave.

ATS friendly resume template: what that actually means

An applicant tracking system reads your resume as a stream of text. It copes best with a simple top-to-bottom order, standard headings such as Experience and Education, and ordinary bullet lists. It struggles when content sits in text boxes, tables, columns or images. The template is built the safe way, with real text headings and lists and no content locked in graphics.

Single column resume template, sections in the usual order

Contact details and a headline come first, then a short summary, experience, education and skills, plus one extra section you can name yourself, for example Certifications. List jobs newest first, and start each achievement bullet with a strong verb and a result. Empty sections are left out of the printed page, so you never see blank headings.

Resume template PDF: paper size, photos and dates

Pick US Letter for the United States and Canada, or A4 for most other countries, before you save. Photos are customary on CVs in some countries and usually left off in the US, UK and Canada, so the photo option is off by default. Dates are free text; follow your local convention and keep one style throughout.
