Free business plan templates are easy to find, and easy to be disappointed by. Comparisons describe the SCORE template as clear but generic, with limited room to adapt the look and layout, while templates offered by planning software vendors tend to nudge you towards a paid product. Word documents are flexible but leave you fighting formatting. The Business Plan Template aims for the plain middle: structure and prompts, no upsell.
Simple business plan template for a small business
Each of the nine sections has a one-line prompt saying what belongs there: executive summary, company description, problem and solution, market analysis, products and services, marketing and sales, operations, team and funding request. A counter shows how many you have written, and empty sections are left out of the finished plan so it reads as complete rather than half-filled.
Business plan template with financial projections
The financial summary takes your estimated revenue and costs for years one to three and works out profit for each. It does not invent numbers: projections are only as good as the assumptions behind them, so note where your figures come from in the text sections. Set your own currency symbol, since the tool does not convert between currencies. Lenders and investors may ask for fuller statements than this summary.
One page business plan template: how to keep it short
You do not have to fill every section. For a one-page version, write a tight executive summary, describe the problem and your solution, name the customers and how you will reach them, and state the funding you need and what it pays for. Leave the rest blank and the printout shrinks to match.
