Candy is part of Halloween, and it is fine to be curious about the numbers. This is general information, not nutrition or medical advice, and nothing here says you have to earn or undo a treat.

How many calories in Halloween candy, per piece?

USDA FoodData Central stores the calories on brand labels. Dividing the label's calories per 100 grams by the serving size and the pieces in it gives about 42 kcal for a Snickers mini, 44 for a Reese's peanut butter cup mini, 80 for a Milky Way fun-size bar, 24 for a Tootsie Roll piece, 26 for a Twizzlers twist, 14 for a Starburst Gummi Burst and about 7 for a piece of candy corn. A 1.4 oz serving of Skittles is about 160 kcal and a 1.5 oz serving of M&M's about 200. Brands change recipes and sizes, so your bag's label is the final word.

Fun size Snickers calories: minutes of exercise

Calories burned equal MET x body weight in kilograms x hours. For a 160 lb (72.6 kg) person walking briskly at 3.5 mph, the 2011 Compendium of Physical Activities lists 4.3 MET, about 312 kcal an hour. A 42 kcal Snickers mini is then about 8 minutes of brisk walking, or 10 minutes at an easy pace. A Milky Way fun-size bar at 80 kcal is about 15 minutes of brisk walking.

How long to walk off Halloween candy?

A better question is whether you want to. If you enjoy a stroll after trick-or-treating, a mixed handful of 3 Snickers minis, 2 Reese's minis and 10 pieces of candy corn is about 282 kcal, roughly 54 minutes of brisk walking for a 160 lb person, 30 minutes of general dancing (7.8 MET) or 33 minutes of jogging (7.0 MET). A 250 lb person needs less time for the same energy, about 35 minutes of brisk walking, because the same movement uses more calories. These are gross values that include the energy you would use sitting still.

Halloween candy calories walking calculator: what it does and does not say

The calculator turns calories into movement so you can picture them. It does not say that you should exercise after candy, and one night of candy does not define your health. Habits over weeks and months matter far more. If counting calories makes you anxious, or you are managing an eating disorder or a medical condition, skip it and talk to a health professional.
