A podcast script template that does the timing math for you

Guides to podcast scripting agree on what a good template contains: episode details up front, an intro, three to six segments with talking points and time targets, transitions, and an outro with a call to action. What most downloadable templates leave out is the arithmetic. They are static Word, PDF or Notion pages, so you add up segment times by hand and have no idea whether your script fits the slot. The Podcast Script Template does the sums as you type.

Podcast script template with timestamps

Give every segment a length in minutes and the tool shows running timestamps from 0:00, so the second segment starts when the first ends and so on. On the printed page each segment carries its time range, which is handy in the booth when you want to know whether you are ahead or behind.

Podcast episode outline template: solo, interview or two hosts

Pick a starting format and edit from there. The solo preset runs hook, intro, two main parts, takeaways and outro. The interview preset adds a guest welcome, background questions, deep-dive questions and a rapid-fire round. The two-host preset has banter, alternating topics and listener mail. Every segment can be renamed, reordered with the arrow buttons or deleted, and you can add your own.

Interview podcast script template: questions and cues

Write your questions in each segment's notes box, one numbered line at a time, and keep follow-ups short so they do not eat the time budget. The read-aloud estimate works best on scripted parts such as the intro, sponsor reads and outro; for a free-flowing interview, use the minutes you allocate as the guide rather than the word count.

How long should a podcast script be for 30 minutes?

At a typical speaking pace of around 150 words a minute, fully scripted speech for 30 minutes would run to about 4,500 words, though most shows script only some parts and leave the rest as talking points. Set the pace slider to your own speed, since people vary widely. The total turns green when your plan fits your target length, orange when you have used 90% of it and red when the segments add up to more than the target.
