Why doesn't this use the official 2026 holiday shipping deadline dates carriers publish?
Carriers (USPS, UPS, FedEx) typically don't publish their exact holiday cutoff dates until closer to the season. Instead of guessing, this calculator counts backward using each service's real published transit-time window (using the slower/safer end of the range), so it stays accurate for any date, any year.
Does this account for holiday shipping delays or volume surges?
It excludes weekends and the three federal holidays that fall in the core shipping season (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day), plus uses the upper end of each service's normal transit window as a safety margin. It can't predict unusual weather or volume-driven delays, so shipping a few days earlier than the calculated date is always safer during peak season.
