VAT rates across Europe aren't remotely uniform — the same net price can produce noticeably different gross totals depending on which country you're pricing for.
Vat calculator by country, the 2026 spread
EU standard VAT rates for 2026 range from Luxembourg's 17% (the lowest allowed under EU rules is 15%) to Hungary's 27% (the highest in the EU). On a €100 net price, that's €117 gross in Luxembourg versus €127 gross in Hungary — a 10 percentage-point gap on an identical item.
Add vat to price calculator, going from net to gross
Quoting a price to a customer starts from your net (pre-tax) amount and adds VAT on top: gross = net × (1 + rate). At Germany's 19% standard rate, a €100 net price becomes exactly €119 gross.
Remove vat from price calculator, working backward from a receipt
Going the other direction — common for expense reports or accounting — starts from a gross total (like a receipt) and works backward: net = gross ÷ (1 + rate), with the VAT amount as the difference. A €119 gross receipt at Germany's 19% rate reverses to exactly €100 net and €19 VAT.
