RMD Calculator
🇺🇸 US-specific: RMDs are a US IRS requirement on traditional retirement accounts — this tool doesn't apply outside the US retirement system.
Enter a positive balance. RMDs apply starting at age 73 (per SECURE 2.0) — below that age, no RMD is required.
Divisors are from the IRS Uniform Lifetime Table, unchanged since 2022. This covers the most common case (account owner, not significantly younger spouse as sole beneficiary) — check IRS Publication 590-B for other situations.
Free RMD (Required Minimum Distribution) calculator using the actual IRS Uniform Lifetime Table divisors — the same official table that's applied to every distribution year since 2022.
How it works
- Enter your account balance as of December 31 of the prior year
- Enter your age this year
- See the IRS life expectancy divisor for your age and the resulting required distribution
Frequently asked questions
At what age do RMDs start?
Age 73, under the SECURE 2.0 Act (rising to 75 for people born in 1960 or later) — this tool flags ages below 73 as not yet requiring an RMD.
How is the RMD calculated?
Prior year-end account balance divided by the IRS life expectancy divisor for your age, from the Uniform Lifetime Table. This covers the most common situation; if your sole beneficiary is a spouse more than 10 years younger, a different IRS table applies — check Publication 590-B.
