Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. Reading and writing metadata runs in your browser with a PDF library loaded on the page, so the file never leaves your device — useful since author names and file history can be personal information.
Why would I want to edit a PDF's metadata?
Two common reasons: privacy (an old author name or company name left over from when the file was created) and publishing (adding a real title so the file doesn't just show its filename in search results and PDF readers).
Does this remove metadata that isn't shown here?
This tool edits Title, Author, Subject and Keywords, the four fields most PDF viewers display. Other metadata your PDF may contain (such as software details in some files) is not touched.
Can I completely blank out the metadata?
Yes. "Clear all metadata" empties all four fields, and downloading afterward saves the PDF with those fields blank.
Is there a limit on how many times I can use this?
No daily limit, no watermark and no account.
Why can't I edit a password-protected PDF?
Encrypted files cannot be read without the password. Remove the password in the app that created it, then add the file again.
