50% relative humidity can feel bone-dry at 100°F or damp at 40°F — because relative humidity is defined relative to temperature. Dew point isn't: a dew point of 65°F feels sticky whether the air itself is 70°F or 95°F, which makes it a much better single number for how muggy the air actually feels.
