Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S — the studio's third publicly stated date for the game, after two earlier delays. Below is a live countdown to that date next to Rockstar's own official trailer, followed by what Rockstar and outside analysts have confirmed, and what they expect once the game ships.
When does GTA 6 come out — and why the date moved twice
The first trailer, released in December 2023, gave only a 2025 release window with no exact date. In May 2025, Rockstar set its first firm date, May 26, 2026. Late in 2025, on a Take-Two Interactive earnings call, the date moved again to November 19, 2026, with Rockstar citing additional time for polish. In a statement at the time, Rockstar said it was sorry for "adding additional time" to an already long wait. As of a late-August 2026 interview with Famitsu, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson said the game "will be released on time."
How much will GTA 6 cost
The Standard Edition is priced at $79.99, roughly $10 above the $69.99 that had become the standard price for AAA console games. An Ultimate Edition is priced at $99.99. Neither price includes tax, and Rockstar has not announced discounted pricing for any platform at launch.
What's confirmed about the story and setting
GTA 6 is set in Vice City and the surrounding fictional state of Leonida, a stand-in for present-day Miami and Florida. The game follows two protagonists, Jason and Lucia, who can be played individually or, in shared missions, swapped between — Rockstar has described the pair as able to "play as a couple, or go off and cause chaos independently." Rockstar North's Rob Nelson has estimated the main story at roughly 80 hours to complete.
What analysts and outlets are expecting
No PC version or date has been announced — Rockstar's past releases (including GTA 5) reached PC roughly a year or more after console launch, and outlets covering the game widely expect the same pattern to repeat, though nothing is confirmed. On the commercial side, industry analysts have pointed to an estimated $260 million in global preorders as a signal that GTA 6 could reach $4.5 billion in sales within its first week on shelves. The marketing rollout has already broken records on its own: Rockstar's first trailer passed 268 million views, making it briefly the most-viewed trailer in YouTube's history at the time, and the second trailer drew a reported 475 million views across platforms in its first 24 hours — Rockstar's own count places that ahead of any movie trailer's opening day.
