How are accented or special characters handled?

Accented Latin letters are normalized to their plain equivalent (café becomes cafe, naïve becomes naive). Characters that can't be converted this way are dropped.

If I set a max length, will it cut a word in half?

No — the slug is only ever cut at a separator, so you always get whole words, never a word chopped mid-way.

Can I use an underscore instead of a dash?

Yes, switch the separator dropdown between dash and underscore.

We checked two popular slug generators directly: one defaults to a button-click workflow, and neither lets you set a maximum slug length — a real gap when Google truncates long URLs in search results. Ours updates live and has a max-length slider that only ever cuts at a word boundary.
